Abstract:Based on the survey of the National Bureau of Statistics and the Women's Union, the current study is conducted to make a comparison on the different features of male and female workers' paid working hours and domestic working time distribution. This study also aims to verify the preference of time selection of the female group through panel data model. The result shows that the second shift phenomenon does exist in the urban labor force in the Chinese women. They not only participate in the paid labor, but also take a significant share of unpaid domestic works. Moreover, factors of education, profession and income also are of significant impacts on male and female laborers’ paid working time distribution
