Abstract:The dual role of trade union in safeguarding rights and maintaining stability in China have been the focus of discussion in academic fi eld and judicial practice as well. This study fi rstly explores the theoretical development context of the dual role of trade union in China, and then, by using the multi-case study method, sorts out the interests of labor and management, and sets up a model of the coordination mechanism of the dual role of trade union organizations in China. Finally, it proposes a coordination strategy under the two modes of operation of the dual role of trade union — "coexistence" and "confl ict". The research shows that, from the perspective of the development of trade union theory, the dual role attributes of trade union in China have legitimacy; with different types of interests as the prerequisite for intervention, the dual role of trade union has two modes of operation: coexistence and confl ict; the role coexists with the coordination strategy of the central trade union building platform, multi-sector alliance, and collective consultation of grassroots trade union organizations. The coordination mechanism of role confl icts should follow the principle of "maintaining stability fi rst", whilst the dual role operation order differences in supplementary confl icts should be solved through multi-subject coordination.
